In August 1958, Zhejiang Medical College was relocated from Hangzhou to Wenzhou and established. It was initially named "Zhejiang Second Medical College" and later named "Wenzhou Medical College" after the school's location. "Wenzhou Medical University" was renamed "Wenzhou Medical University" in 2013.
