On December 22, faculty members and students from the Product Design program of the College of Art and Design at Sanming University visited Jiansheng Group, embarking on an immersive industry learning experience. The visit aimed to bridge academic education with professional practice, helping students gain a deeper understanding of product design through firsthand exposure to modern furniture manufacturing.
A Comprehensive Learning Journey: From Design Concept to Real-World Application
The visit focused on three core areas: the Furniture Testing Laboratory, R&D Center, and Office Furniture Showroom. Through systematic observation, students explored the complete product lifecycle—from design creativity and technical validation to spatial application—gaining a holistic view of how design, technology, and manufacturing are integrated within a modern furniture enterprise.
Furniture Testing Laboratory: Building Product Quality Through Standards and Data
At the Jiansheng furniture testing laboratory, students learned about the critical testing processes required during furniture development and production. The laboratory conducts comprehensive evaluations covering structural safety, stability, durability, and environmental and material safety standards.
Jiansheng’s technical specialists explained common challenges encountered when translating design concepts into finished products, including structural integrity, material selection, and manufacturing processes. Through scientific testing and data-driven analysis, design solutions are continuously refined. This visit reinforced a key professional insight: successful product design balances aesthetics with long-term safety, reliability, and user experience.
R&D Center: Transforming Creativity into Market-Ready Products
During the visit to the R&D Center, students gained a clear understanding of Jiansheng’s product development workflow. From market research and concept development to structural engineering, material selection, prototyping, and repeated testing, the R&D team demonstrated how ideas evolve into functional, manufacturable products.
Discussions on industry trends, functional innovation, and design feasibility helped students better understand the practical requirements of product designers in a corporate environment, while also broadening their perspective on future career development within the furniture industry.
Office Furniture Showroom: Design Empowering Space and Experience
In the office furniture showroom, students experienced Jiansheng’s integrated workspace solutions designed for diverse office environments. The exhibition showcased solutions for open-plan offices, private workspaces, meeting rooms, and collaborative areas, highlighting how furniture design enhances space efficiency, functionality, and user comfort.
Through on-site explanations covering design concepts, modular systems, materials, and application scenarios, students observed how theoretical design knowledge is transformed into tangible, user-centered furniture solutions in real office environments.
Strengthening Education Through Practice
“Knowledge begins with practice, and practice completes understanding.” This industry–academia engagement not only allowed students to step beyond the classroom and experience the realities of the furniture industry, but also helped them clarify professional goals through real-world exposure.
