How was the Canton Fair born?

In the early days of the founding of New China, some Western countries did not recognize New China politically and implemented "economic blockade" and "goods embargo" against China economically. Considering the increasingly prominent position of Guangzhou in foreign trade and its solid foundation in foreign trade, the State Council has decided to hold a national export commodity exhibition in Guangzhou. On November 10, 1956, the "China Export Commodities Exhibition" was successfully held at the former Sino Soviet Friendship Building in Guangzhou, with excellent results during the two month "water test". On March 4, 1957, the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the People's Republic of China issued an important document agreeing to hold an export commodities trade fair in Guangzhou in April of that year - the first ever Canton Fair in history.
